Google Beta Nearby Share App For Windows Launched

For Ease Of Transferring Files Between Windows PCs & Android Devices

Back at CES 2023, Google discussed the several ways it is enhancing the interoperability of Android with the Windows ecosystem. One of the features it promised for Microsoft desktop OS was Nearby Sharing. The IT giant has now released a beta version of the Nearby Share programme for Windows, greatly simplifying file transfers between mobile devices and personal computers. If your computer is running Windows 10 64-bit or later and does not use ARM processors, you can download it right now from the Android website.

Usage

The Nearby Sharing feature requires that Wi-Fi and Bluetooth be turned on in your PC, however, you can restrict who may access your device and give you files to ward off any potential spam messages. You can select whether to make your computer accessible to everyone, your contacts, your own devices only, or no one at the present under the drop-down box for the device visibility setting. An Android device will be able to exchange files with your computer whether the programme is open or merely running in the background until you select the last option.

Applicability

Users have to drag and drop files into the Nearby Share app or right-click them and select the Nearby Share option to send them from their PC to an Android phone. Transfers are automatically accepted even if the recipient’s screen is off if you own both devices and they are both logged into the same Google account. Please keep in mind that the distance between the two devices must be no more than 16 feet.

Availability

With a few exceptions, Google has made Nearby Sharing available in the US and the majority of other nations. Additionally, it stated that although the beta software currently only supports Android smartphones and tablets, it will eventually be compatible with all devices within the company’s ecosystem.
