RCS stands for Rich Communication Services. It is a next-generation SMS technology. With this installed, the default messaging app on a device receives rich features like payments, high-resolution photo and file sharing, location sharing, video calls and much more. It can be said that it is a hypercharged SMS version with additional features like typing indicators, delivery and read receipts.
Google has been using this technology for its messaging for quite some time now. It is said that Apple should also hope to try out this technology for its messages which would, in turn, enable Android users to send rich multimedia messages to their iPhone-using friends that will have better photographs and videos.
With the addition of features like reaction support for iPhone SMS, Google is also attempting to unify the user experience between the two operating systems. But Apple is reportedly rejecting any new features or updates coming from Google.
The end-to-end encryption feature will be rolled out with the new update of the Google Messaging App very soon. It will be free of cost with no additional charges.
