The latest monitor from BenQ is a 32-inch, 4K, HDR device that comes with USB-C connectivity. BenQ’s EW3280U appears to be quite an all-rounder at the first glance, let’s take a closer look at it.
Let’s start with the design, we could see slim bezels on three sides of EW3280U’s 32-inch IPS panel and there’s a much more noticeable, bulkier fourth edge at the bottom. This chin-like bottom edge is actually home to an integrated soundbar, IR remote and ambient light sensors! That’s not all friends, the EW3280U also boasts a low-frequency speaker on the rear side that’s been placed there to enhance the bass performance.
BenQ’s EW3280U comes with a lot of interesting features like an IR remote control and integrated speakers that deliver some impressive sound quality. This monitor falls right in the middle of the segment offering a decently priced screen that can deliver professional-quality performance to strike a perfect balance. Moreover, there’s the upside of notional HDR support and much more comprehensive colour coverage that comes with it. Also, we noted that this monitor’s entire audio setup is specially designed by Trevolo to equip the EW3280U with a way above average sound system. Another feature as part of its multimedia offering is the AMD’s FreeSync adaptive refresh that is exclusively crafted to improve the quality of productivity and entertainment that new-age devices can deliver.
We cannot deny that we were reasonably impressed by EW3280U’s performance – it delivers vibrant visuals and its default settings offer a rich and vivid visual experience. This can be made even better by enabling one of the simulated HDR modes via the HDRi dropdown menu. What we like about this monitor is that while the conventional HDR mode allows HDR content to be viewed with accurate colour balance, the VESA DisplayHDR400 certification allows for a wide gamut support. BenQ here strikes a decent balance between detail and usability, offering 4K at 32 inches with the EW3280U. The monitor offers incredible viewing angles owing to its IPS panel and also makes for an excellent productivity tool.
The EW3280U supports USB-C connectivity with a DisplayPort Alt mode that enabled us to attach a laptop to it via a single cable, or even charge the laptop and connect other peripherals as well.
We feel that the screen on this monitor packs tons of desktop space along with its lucrative blend of reasonable density, precision, and 4K resolution. The USB-C connectivity support further amplifies the usability of this device. All in all, we feel the EW3280U is a strong contender if you wish to make a long-term investment on a productivity device that can also double up as an impressive entertainment unit too.
