A wider range of customizations makes the Zephyrus Duo 15 SE’s secondary screen accessible to a larger user base. All variants come with quad speakers with Dolby Atmos to enhance audio output, next-gen noise cancelling to clean up voice communication; a MicroSD slot that allows easy access to media, and fast-charging support that enhances real-world mobility. They also share an all-metal chassis with a new Dot Insight aesthetic that blends professional looks with subtle, laser-polished accents.
ROG ScreenPad Plus
The ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 SE puts the same ScreenPad Plus secondary display on a leaning platform that increases comfort and value while also opening a large intake that increases airflow for the cooling system. When the laptop is opened, the ROG ScreenPad Plus rises up at a 13° angle for easy viewing and touch control. This motion is seamless and carefully crafted by an innovative hinge that staggers the rise of the displays.
At 14.1”, this is the largest second screen to hit the market in a production gaming laptop. The IPS panel stretches wide viewing angles across the full width of the body and provides a large amount of extra real estate. Gamers can enjoy a fluid experience by keeping the gameplay on the main screen and the chats and broadcast controls on the one below. Content creators can work on the main display without clutter, keeping their timelines, toolbars, and reference material on the bottom screen. Other multitasking activities also benefit from an extension of the desktop. The touch screen even works with the ASUS Pen active stylus, allowing users to sketch and handwrite.
Next-gen GPU and CPU
The Zephyrus Duo 15 SE reinforces its high-refresh display choices with up to a GeForce RTX 3080 laptop GPU. Due to its advanced cooling and ROG Boost, the chip is able to spool up to 1645 MHz at 115W with ROG Boost, with another 15W available from Dynamic Boost — a higher power profile as compared to other slim laptops.
More power results in the GPU delivering fast and fluid gameplay in everything from first-person shooters to cinematic RPGs. This GPU is made using a new NVIDIA Ampere architecture with upgraded enhanced RT cores for real-time ray tracing, CUDA cores for programmable shading, and upgraded Tensor cores for boosting AI. This diverse combination optimizes gaming performance and graphics while speeding up other workloads like image processing, deep learning and 3D modelling. It’s also backed by up to a massive 16GB of GDDR6 VRAM reserved solely for the GPU.
An AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX Mobile Processor with 8 cores and 16 threads provides a significant boost to any workload. Built on state-of-the-art 7nm fabrication technology, created to deliver a more engaging laptop gaming experience, and it also sails the tide of serious work like 3D rendering, content creation, and intense multitasking. With up to 32GB of combined onboard and SO-DIMM memory, there’s more than enough DDR4-3200 RAM for juggling multiple tasks across the two displays. Users have the choice to broadcast high-definition streams while using chat software, to work on big projects and datasets, and to open as many browser tabs as needed without any lag.
Upgraded Main Display
The Zephyrus Duo 15 SE takes its primary screen into an Ultra HD league with a 4K panel with a refresh rate of 120 Hz and has an Esports-grade grey-to-grey response time of 3ms. With complete coverage of the wide-gamut Adobe RGB colour palette, this top-shelf display option compliments professional-grade content creation with fluid and crisp gaming.
Adaptive-Sync technology has been used to come at par with the refresh rate of the panel with the GPU’s frame rate. Closely synchronizing these components elevates the gaming experience by removing visual tearing, minimizing perceptible stuttering, and cutting down on input lag. The IPS-level displays are also set up at the factory to comply with stringent Pantone validation parameters. This process ensures colour accuracy, giving creators the fidelity they require and enabling gamers to experience graphics as the developers and artists aimed to.
Innovative Cooling
ROG reimagined ultra-slim laptop cooling with the legacy ROG Zephyrus, whose Active Aerodynamic System (AAS) optimized airflow by opening a 7–10mm intake across the base of the laptop when the user lifts the lid, enabling more power to be channelled to the processors without creating a lot of noise.
To provide further cooling, the CPU is wrapped with Thermal Grizzly’s liquid metal compound, which drops processor temperatures by up to 10°C compared to the regular thermal paste. The cooling module’s five heat pipes pull thermal energy away from the CPU, GPU, VRAM, and VRM. They spread it across 4 heat sinks filled with ultra-thin fins that increase the area for thermal dissipation while decreasing resistance to airflow.
Cooling requirements change based on the task, so ROG offers a host of modes tuned for different scenarios. In silent mode, the speed is reduced ever so slightly to keep acoustics low, which is ideal for everyday operations. Performance mode offers the much-needed horsepower required to push high frame rates during gaming without obscene amounts of noise. Turbo mode overclocks the CPU by 200 MHz to enable even top-notch performance with a louder fan profile. Users can toggle between operating modes either manually with a quick keyboard shortcut or automatically with Scenario Profiles.
All the I/O Needed for Gaming on the Go
Exquisite networking capability and connectivity let the Zephyrus Duo 15 SE power a full game station or serious workstation. The USB 3.2 Gen 2 port supports DisplayPort 1.4 for desktop monitors, and an HDMI 2.0b output can drive a 4K monitor or TV at 60 Hz. Three Type-A USB ports provide room for additional peripherals, including a mouse, gamepad, and VR gear. ROG has also added a lightening fast microSD 4.0 reader capable of speeds up to 312MB/s, so users can quickly load footage from drones, action cameras, and other portable devices.
ROG gives users ultra-fast wireless networking with Wi-Fi 6, also known as 802.11ax. When coupled with a compatible router, Wi-Fi 6 increases peak interface bandwidth up to 2.4Gbps and enhances efficiency for congested networks like the ones found in offices and coffee shops. It also cuts down the latency, which reduces lag for sensitive activities like online gaming, and it expands upstream capacity, which offers more bandwidth for live streaming. For users who would rather plug in, the Gigabit Ethernet jack at the back of the system provides the least possible latency for intense multiplayer gameplay.
