Mercusys MR70X WiFi 6 AX1800 Router – Budget Connectivity

One of the most affordable WiFi 6 AX1800 routers in the market, the Mercusys MR70X makes for a great WiFi 6 upgrade. With WiFi 6 support, it obviously delivers much better performance than some of the better wireless AC routers available in a similar price range. It’s an impressive router for those households that have less than 15 connected devices in total. Let’s find out more about this device.

The Mercusys MR70X is a dual-band AX1800 WiFi 6 router with OFDMA support. It is equipped with 4 multi-directional high-gain antennas with Beamforming to boost stable connections throughout one’s home for strong WiFi signals in every corner. All the ports are on the back of the router – a single Gigabit WAN port and 3 Gigabit LAN ports. There’s a decent chunk of heat spreader inside, which acts as a heatsink and helps the router cool down.

Mercusys MR70X runs stable and reliable firmware; the interface is relatively fast and responsive, too. We did not encounter any firmware crash during our usage. All the basic software features are present on this, and we didn’t feel there was anything vital that was missing. Security-wise, the router exceeded our expectations again. The Mercusys MR70X supports the latest WPA3 wireless security – cheaper routers usually skip on upgraded security features, but Mercusys has definitely got its priorities right.

The Mercusys MR70X delivers optimal WiFi 6 speeds reaching up to 1.8 Gbps (1201 Mbps on the 5 GHz band and 574 Mbps on the 2.4 GHz band) Optimal WiFi 6 speeds reaching up to 1.8 Gbps (1201 Mbps on the 5 GHz band and 574 Mbps on the 2.4 GHz band). The 5Ghz WiFi performance is decent, even with a couple of walls between the router and the phone. The 2.4Ghz signal is also pretty good, better than we expected it to be at this price, to be honest. The signal is quite solid and stable overall. Mercusys MR70X is a decent budget router and is an ideal one for smaller homes.

The Mercusys MR70X is hands down a much better choice than most of the cheaper Wireless AC routers available, owing to its WiFi 6 capabilities. It provides strong WiFi coverage and a highly stable WiFi connection. This makes it a great choice even if you don’t have WiFi 6 devices yet as it benefits those using older devices as well. Think of it like this, soon you will have WiFi 6 devices, and at that time, you won’t need to change your router again.
