Updated Chromebooks for Families, Students, and Hybrid Workers

Acer today unveiled three new Chromebooks designed for consumers in the student, family, and hybrid workers segments. They are being marketed as easy-to-use, and affordable devices for productivity, entertainment and communication. Each Chromebook features a unique design, with different three sizes and form factors, as well as special features that meet the needs of each individual segment.

Acer Chromebook Spin 513

The new Acer Chromebook Spin 513 (CP513-2H) features a sleek design built atop a durable aluminium chassis. It has been designed as a slim and portable device to take on the go for school, work, and other projects. It can transform between four different usage modes, such as a regular laptop, large tablet, tent mode, and more. The model features military-grade MIL-STD 810H durability to ensure consistent use under heavy abuse.

The system is powered by MediaTek’s Kompanio 1380 processor. The base configuration starts with around 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. You get a decent IO setup, with USB Type-C for charging, and the addition of Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth for further connectivity.

The true highlight of the model is the VertiView 13.5-inch display with a 3:2 aspect ratio. The display features a 2256x1504 resolution panel and 7.7 mm (0.3 in) narrow side bezels. It is paired with a pair of upward-facing speakers for a good multimedia experience. The battery is large enough that you can make use of this setup for up to 10 hours on a single charge. This is more than enough for most hybrid users and certainly good enough for a starting price of EUR 649.

Acer Chromebook 315

The Chromebook 315 is a strong contender in the home entertainment segment, with a huge FHD IPS 15.6-inch display. The display features an anti-glare coating, so you can use it in all types of environments. You can get it as a regular laptop, or with an optional touch-screen display for easy multitasking.

The device is built with students in mind, with a large screen for watching content, a comfortable keyboard for long note-taking sessions, and a dedicated video conferencing setup made up of a special wide field-of-view HDR webcam with flare-reducing technology and a pair of integrated microphones.

Since media consumption is such a big part of every student’s life, the Chromebook also features DTS Audio for a rich sound with deeper bass. You also get a unique eco-friendly OceanGlass touchpad, which the company claims is made out of recycled plastic waste. The design itself is nothing to write home about, but you do get the latest generation of IntelCeleron processors for everyday use.

The Chromebook is powered by a decent-sized battery pack, which delivers up to 10 hours of use on a single charge, and can be charged via USB-C. The whole setup will cost you around EUR 399, which is a great starting price for a student’s first laptop.

Acer Chromebook 314

The Acer Chromebook 314 (CB314-3H/T) is the smaller cousin of the 315, with a 14-inch FHD IPS display that comes with touch-screen functionality by default. It features a similar if not a more compact design that benefits from MIL-STD 810H durability for rough, everyday use. It even gets the eco-friendly OceanGlass touchpad, made from recycled plastic.

The system has been designed specifically for students and families with school-age children. It is powered by the latest Intel processors for solid everyday performance. Users can pair this up with at least 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The whole setup is expected to last up to 10 hours on a single battery charge, which is plenty enough for most students studying at home.

These students also get the benefit of Acer’s excellent remote-learning experience, with two built-in microphones and a flare-reducing webcam that comes with temporal noise reduction (TNR) technology to improve video quality in low-light conditions. The sound output is handled via a pair of upward-facing speakers, that support DTS Audio for high-quality, distortion-free sound. A pair of USB Type-C ports completes the packaging, offering users a convenient means to connect to a wide variety of peripherals. You can get the whole setup for a starting price of just EUR 369.
