Design and Build
Weighing just 1.3kg, at 13.9mm thin, the ZenBook Flip 13 from Asus is completed with a sleek Pine Grey lid. This state-of-the-art machine offers both touchscreen capabilities and a physical keyboard along with a touchpad. This means we could easily switch between typing out this review and doodling up a digital creative. This laptop actually comes with a weight that is comparable to that of a tablet. It actually has a keyboard and trackpad worth mentioning, simply because of all that this device packs in, given its slimness, but we’ll discuss that separately in the next section.
Keyboard and Trackpad
This is definitely an unexpected bonus on the ZenBook Flip 13 as we all know that smaller laptops can't squeeze in a 10-key numeric keypad. What Asus has done here is that it offers a virtual grid on this system that lights up with a simple long press on the upper-right hand corner of the trackpad. The trackpad, on the other hand, is compliant with Microsoft’s Precision touchpad requirements for expanded Windows gestures. Also, it’s on the larger side, which is amazing considering how difficult that might have been to incorporate given much space this device tries to save for users in general.
The ZenBook Flip 13 is crafted for designers with its 100% 13.3” NanoEdge Full HD IPS display. This translates into a wider screen and very vibrant colours that are comparable. The laptop from Asus is built to optimise the possibilities of next-gen technologies. It comes with WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0 support to provide faster download speeds, stable connections, and reduced lag when streaming or gaming. The ZenBook Flip 13 comes with a 360° ErgoLift hinge that enables users to seamlessly flip between laptop, tent, stand or tablet modes. The smooth hinge allows the keyboard to be angled into a preferred position for a more ergonomic typing experience. The hinge can actually withstand around 20,000 cycles of rotation as per our testing. The device comes with long battery life and this greatly adds to the portability of this laptop. This laptop can give up to 14 hours of battery life during intensive usage, all thanks to its 67 Wh rechargeable battery.
The all-new Asus ZenBook Flip 13 is designed to demonstrate highly intuitive touchscreen capabilities, and it does. While using this, the experience entailed smooth scrolling, pinch & zoom, selection and swiping. When being used as a tablet, the screen can provide 4096 levels of pressure sensitivity with the included ASUS Pen. With this, we were able to produce a wider variation of the line quality to give an enhanced hand-drawn touch to the illustrations. While the device is definitely made for heavyweight usage, the Zenbook Flip 13 actually runs silently. Also, it doesn’t overheat even after being pushed to its limits with intense graphics work with a low battery. The 100% 13.3” NanoEdge Full HD IPS display optimises the ultra-book for artists and creative professionals who require accurate colours when painting or photo editing. Powered by the latest 11th Gen intel core i7 processor and Intel Iris Xe graphics, this thin laptop is lightweight only literally and packs quite a punch to deliver stellar performances no matter how intensive the workload.
This is a complete and compact powerhouse from Asus that doesn’t burn a hole in the buyer’s pocket. This laptop-and-tablet makes for a pretty sweet deal, especially for designers and artists looking for alternatives to the pricier systems that feature these capabilities. Moreover, one doesn’t even have to worry about cybersecurity as the Asus Zenbook Flip 13 comes with a pre-installed McAfee Anti Virus and 2 years warranty with pickup and return service. Add to it all the accessories it comes with i.e. stylus pen, USB-C to audio jack adapter, and a sleeve, you have a true winner.
