Premium 5G Smartphone With Lots to Offer

Shenzhen-based electronics giant Huawei is always on a mission to create exciting devices which shatter the status quo with their innovative design and out-of-the-box features. With the Huawei Nova 8 Pro 5G, the company has tried to do just that, but has it succeeded? Read on to find out, in the words of the Great Lobbyist.

Touch and Feel

The Huawei Nova 8 Pro 5G is pitched as a premium device and it certainly feels like one. The phone is clean and plush to the touch, the edges are smooth and the back has a nice matte feel to it. The rear panel is made using high-quality anti-glare glass giving it a suave look, the NOVA logo embezzled with what seems to be aluminium gives off a spectacular shine when light falls on it at the right angle.

The power button and volume rockers too feel sturdy and give the user confidence about the fact that they are built to last. All in fall, Huawei has nailed it when it comes to the hardware department of the Nova 8 Pro 5.

Display

If they nailed the hardware, then they certainly hit the ball out of the park with the display. The 6.72 inches wide OLED HDR10 display is as beautiful as they come. With an incredibly wide colour gamut, deep contrasts and bright whites, the screen does absolute justice to all the visuals that it projects.

The 120Hz refresh rate makes the interactive experience all the more joyful. This coupled with the fact that it has a resolution of 1236 x 2676 p makes it ideal for gaming or binging on your favourite shows and movies.

Performance

Powered by a Kirin 985 5G chipset and running on an Octa Core Cortex CPU setup, the operations are smooth and quick, it can handle pretty much everything that is thrown at it, from multiple apps (thanks to its 8GB Random Access Memory) to intense, high-performance gaming thanks to its Mali G 77 GPU.

With up to 256 GB of memory available onboard, the absence of a MicroSD card isn’t felt at all and users don’t have to worry about running out of storage, no matter how many pictures they click.

Camera

Speaking of pictures, let us discuss the unique-looking quad camera setup found at the back of the Huawei Nova 8 Pro 5G. It consists of a 64 Megapixel main camera, an 8 MP ultrawide and two 2 MP sensors - one for Macro shots and one for depth. The picture quality is excellent with razor-sharp clarity and excellent colour recognition. The video capabilities are impressive too, with the main camera capable of recording at 4K and the selfie camera capable of recording up to 1080p Full HD.

The selfie camera gets a dual-lens setup, with a 16 Megapixel wide and 32 Megapixel ultrawide angle lens. The quality of pictures on the front camera too is impressive, solidifying the Nova 8 Pro 5G’s position in the market as a premium device.

Battery

The 4000 mAh battery may not be an absolute top-shelf offering but it is certainly enough for the Huawei Nova 8 Pro 5G, providing enough juice to power through a day with ease. The absence of wireless charging is sorely missed but the 66W fast charging capability makes up for it. The device can be charged up to 60% in just 15 minutes and goes from zero to full charge in just 35 minutes.

Verdict

While the Huawei Nova 8 Pro scores nearly full marks in all segments, making it a formidable premium device, the absence of Google Play Services on an Android 10 platform causes great hindrance for day-to-day use.
