Samsung Patents Smartwatch With Built-In Projector

About ten years ago, Samsung was among the first companies to market a smartphone with an integrated projector. A recent patent application implies that Samsung now wants to bring this feature to its wearables as well. In a patent application, a hypothetical wearable device that may project information from the outside of its housing onto the back of the users hand was depicted as a Samsung Galaxy watch.

Features

The projector bit reportedly includes several lenses and LED emitters arranged in an arc shape, in the patent description. It will be able to project pictures and videos onto the back of your hand and reflect the main screen. The small projector would have the ability to present information that is distinct from the information displayed on the display module, in the patent. The watch casing will include the projector bit.

Usage

Projecting broadcasts and multimedia content is one of the use cases that is discussed in the patent. Additionally, the projector’s LEDs can change their luminance and focal length instantly for the best possible viewing. While there is no guarantee that Samsung as a company will actively pursue this project, as with any patents, we can only hope to see additional details and a functional prototype of this patent filing.

Availability

As the patent is still under supervision, we have no information on when this feature will be added in the wearable range of Samsung. But we can expect it to happen within the next year.
