PS VR2
Playstation VR2 is a stylish, if not bulky, virtual reality headset that has been designed to work with the PS5 console to deliver an immersive and exciting gaming experience. The front part of the headset hosts most of the bulk, with the displays, as well as the built-in motion and eye tracking cameras, both present on the same. It is attached to a weird headband design that wraps around your head on top, even as the lens module rests in front of your eyes. This doesn't provide the perfect weight distribution, but it is still one of the many designs that let users wear bulky headsets on their faces for a long period of time.
You also get two PS VR2 Sense controllers with this purchase and a pair of headphones to help you experience true multi-sensory experiences. While the headset can be connected to the PS5 with a USB-C cable, the controllers themselves are completely wireless, with a special movement tracking ring that wraps around your hands for ease of use. They feature the same quality of buttons as the PS5 DualSense controllers, along with the detailed haptic feedback system that the console is famous for. Everything has been designed to look and feel premium, with the only drawback being that it still relies on the PS5 to handle most of the heavy lifting.
Display & Audio
The PS VR2 gets a massive upgrade in terms of both display and audio, with a higher resolution 4K OLED display on each side, featuring support for HDR content and up to 120Hz of high refresh rate for a smooth visual experience. The onboard cameras on the front help create a virtual pass-through mode called See-Through View, which lets users see their surroundings at all times, so they don't bump into think and can move in the hybrid environment confidently.
The same level of spatial awareness is implemented on the audio setup as well, as you can use the built-in mic and wired headphones to enjoy an immersive 3D audio soundstage. The motion tracking system keeps track of your head as well as the placement of the speaker so that the audio direction changes dynamically when either of you moves from your original spot, even if it is something as innocuous as a head tilt.
Price & Availability
The Playstation VR2 is a relatively affordable virtual reality headset with a starting price of $550. This amount gets you the headset, both controllers, as well as a pair of headphones. There is a charging station for the controllers that you will have to buy separately for $50. The company plans to start selling this setup on February 22 officially, but the pre-orders will open on November 15th itself. You can go to the Playstation Direct Store and make your reservations for the unit.
The process is quite complicated, as first, you will have to sign up to receive an email invitation, which will give you the details on how to reserve the device and from where. Once you follow the steps and finish your registration, you still have to wait before the company decides it is your time to get the headset. This way, you have to get verified on multiple levels, with none of them guaranteeing that you will be selected to be eligible for the pre-order. The only redeeming part of this ordeal is that if you are willing to pay $600 instead of the $550 price tag, you will also get a voucher for a digital copy of Horizon: Call of the Mountain.
