LG ProBeam BU50NST Review

4K DLP Laser Projector

A strong performer for board rooms and conference rooms, the LG ProBeam BU50NST comes with 4K UHD resolution and 5,000-lumen rated brightness make. The compact projector already has an edge over its competitors owing to its size. Let us find out more about this office device.

Design

The BU50NST's small size is one of its more appealing features - it measures 12.8 x 14.6 x 6.1 inches (HWD) and weighs 21.4 pounds. It fits more easily in a tighter space. Vertical and horizontal lens shift controls can be found on the side of the BU50NST. The projector is designed to be placed either on a flat surface or it can be inverted in a ceiling mount. It offers flexible positioning thanks to its lens shift and 1.6x zoom features. Compared with most 5,000-lumen laser UHD projectors, LG’s BU50NST is relatively smaller and that makes it less obtrusive and hence much more preferable if you ask us. According to LG, the anti-dust optical engine and long-life laser light source make this projector virtually maintenance-free. This makes it all the more useful in corporate setups and even spaces like museums and auditoriums.

Features

Some LG BU50NST’s features include HDR support, a built-in Web browser, support for DLNA, and support for wireless connection to mobile devices, making presenting using phones or tablets a whole lot easier during meetings. BU50NST's 16:9 native aspect ratio and its HDR support along with some of its menu choices like a game mode, a Cinema Home mode, and LG's version of frame interpolation make it ideal for a corporate setup. It should not be mistaken for a home projector, it is not designed to be one. It comes with LG’s BU50N remote which makes it super simple to operate from anywhere in the room. It also includes a pair of 5-watt stereo speakers, which deliver good enough sound quality. For those who wish to use an external audio system, one of the projector’s HDMI ports supports HDMI-ARC, and there's a 3.5mm analogue audio out port along with Bluetooth speaker support with an AV sync control.

Performance

The BU50NST projector offers eight predefined colour modes for SDR (standard dynamic range) input and except for DICOM, all the SDR modes deliver well-saturated, vibrant colours for graphics. Presentation mode is the brightest mode on this and our preferred choice as well. The second brightest mode is the Standard mode and we think it's ideal for presentations that have a lot of photos in them. The Cinema mode does a better job of maintaining gradations and offers a darker black level as well. Overall, it's great for presentations and conference calls. Its neat features make it an impressive corporate projector.

Conclusion

The LG ProBeam BU50NST projector’s small size makes it less obtrusive and switching between SDR and HDR input works quite smoothly. Both SDR and HDR modes offer great colour accuracy, and the projector also delivers fine detail with 4K input. With the brightness it offers, it's one of the lower-priced UHD-resolution models in its class. The LG ProBeam BU50NST a definitely a serious contender among 4K, 5,000-lumen business projectors.
