Specifications
The Redmi Pad comes with a sleek and slim body, which features a flat rear panel and a 10.61-inch 90Hz 2K IPS LCD display on the front. The display has a pixel density of 220PPI and a peak brightness of 400 nits. It is TÜV Rheinland-certified for low blue light emissions. It is also claimed to be the first tablet that features an SGS low visual fatigue certification. The setup is rounded off by a quad-speaker setup that comes with support for Dolby Atmos.
It comes with a 6nm MediaTek Helio G99 chipset, which is paired with up to 6GB LPDDR4x RAM and 128GB UFS 2.2 storage. You even have a MicroSD card slot that supports up to 1TB of external storage. All of this is powered by a massive 8000mAH battery that supports 18W fast charging through a 22.5W USC-C charger.
You get a single 8MP camera setup on both sides, with the selfie camera being a wide-angle unit with a 105⁰ field of view. It also supports a new FocusFrame software mode which keeps the subjects in the centre of the frame at all times. Connectivity features include Bluetooth v5.3 and Wi-Fi 5, although we would have also liked to get a 3.5mm audio jack.
Software
The Redmi Pad runs on a special version of MIUI 13 called MIUI for Pad, which is a standard Android 12 OS with some tweaks to make it better suited for the tablet form factor. It comes with tablet-ready features like a split-screen, floating windows, multi-windows, and a dock. However, it isn't as versatile as the latest Android 12L, which was specifically designed for tablet devices.
Thankfully, most first-party applications are already optimized for tablets, and chances are that third-party developers will eventually create new versions of their apps suited for Android 12L, which can then be used with this device. Xiaomi already promises at least two Android and MIUI updates, along with 3 years of security updates. So, maybe they might even switch to Android 12L by default in the coming months.
Price and Availability
The Redmi Pad is available in three distinct colours - Mint Green, Moonlight Silver, and Graphite Grey. You can get any of these in three different models. A base 3GB RAM and 64GB storage unit for AED 579, a 4GB RAM and 64GB storage model for AED 668, and a 6GB RAM and 128GB storage one for AED 757.
