Displays
The Magic 5 series will feature new, larger, more vibrant OLED panels featuring the latest LTPO technology to help dynamically switch the refresh rates between 1Hz-120Hz. In addition to being buttery smooth and energy efficient, the display is also super responsive, thanks to a 480Hz touch sampling rate and various other software optimizations.
We can expect the displays to be pretty large, with the top-end model going as large as 6.8 inches. They will also feature dynamic brightness adjustments, thanks to a special 2150Hz PWM dimming system and a peak brightness of up to 1100 nits. You also get support for HDR10+ playback, so the colour contrast will be as striking as the shadows. While there is no news on whether any model with feature a special protective glass, like the Corning Gorilla Glass, we can expect the body itself to be made from touch materials.
Specifications
On the inside, the smartphone series is expected to feature the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, which is paired with super fast LPDDR5x RAM and the latest UFS 5.0 storage. These components help improve the processing power as well as the speed of the device in comparison to outgoing models. Everything will be powered by a dense lithium-ion battery that is expected to feature at least 66W fast charging capabilities.
While this is pretty low, even compared to the outgoing model, it is still fast enough to be considered flagship-level performance while also improving the safety and longevity of the battery system. The smartphones also feature a decently powerful cooling mechanism to keep the battery and processor from overheating under stress. We will have to wait and see if they add more features on the software front. For now, we can expect at least an Android 13-based OS with the latest MagicOS skin on top.
Cameras
The camera system is one area where the devices do showcase plenty of diversity. The Magic 5 Pro is expected to feature a relatively cheaper triple camera unit, featuring a Sony IMX878 sensor, an OmniVision OV64B lens, and a Sony IMX516 camera. The system is expected to feature OIS as well, but only for the main sensor.
On the other hand, the Magic 5 Ultimate is expected to feature the more powerful and versatile quad camera array, with a 50MP Sony IMX989 main sensor, a secondary Sony IMX758 lens, a Sony IMX516 sensor, and another OIS-enabled Sony camera. These sensors are also supported by a ToF lens and a flicker sensor, which makes it easier to take nice pictures and videos in all sorts of lighting conditions. These systems will further be enhanced by a variety of AI algorithms, which will be revealed at the time of launch.
Price & Availability
While there is speculation on the price of the devices, there is nothing confirmed yet, so we will wait until the official launch to see what price the different models come at. What we do know is that the devices will be launched before the end of this month and should be available in most international markets in the coming months. We will keep you informed as and when new information comes in.
