Google Meet Update

Now Featuring Meeting Transcripts

Google is rolling out a massive update to its Google Meet service, which will bring lots of new and exciting features to the popular video conferencing app. One of the most anticipated features in this new update is the ability to get an automatically generated written transcript of the entire meeting done with the help of a voice recognition algorithm.

Google-Meet-Update

This new update will be available to users starting this week and will be a welcome addition to the existing feature that lets users save entire video calls as offline video files. This way, you won't miss any vital information discussed during the meetings, irrespective of how many people take part in it.

The algorithm is smart enough to recognize when different people are speaking and will automatically separate the text between different people involved. You will be able to get the entire transcript in the form of a Google Doc, which you can save to your personal drive or even on your device.

For now, this service is available only to English-speaking users, but the company is also actively working on bringing support to other languages. Chances are that you will be able to get the same facility in French, German, Spanish and Portuguese as early as next year. This is just another expansion of the live caption feature that is already available to Pixel users on their phones.

Another feature introduced in this update will let you automatically frame yourself in the centre of the video while taking a video call. This auto-framing feature will even adjust the frame to keep multiple people in focus, just in case you are conducting a meeting in a crowded office.

The company is even working on eventually being able to recognize multiple participants within the same frame so that the software will show the names of different people joining a call from the same physical location. This feature will come in addition to a new check-in function, which will display a list of all the participants as soon as they join in.

Lastly, the company is also bringing the ability to virtually raise your hand, chat and ask questions to your mobile phone. This feature already works on users who join using a computer or tablet. Soon, you will also be able to respond to individual chats using inline threaded conversations, just like you can do with Slack and other chatting applications.

All this and more are just another way for the company to try and make their video conferencing app a more comprehensive and essential part of your daily work life.
