However, even picking a good 1080p gaming monitor is not an easy feat anymore as this segment is already pretty saturated by products from all hardware manufacturers. So, the only way to differentiate your offering is to go the extra mile and deliver unique features to cater to a larger audience.
That includes not only traditional gamers but also modern content creators on social media and YouTube, who often use such high-fidelity displays for their editing needs. Benq is trying to play to both segments with the MOBIUZ EX2710S. A sleek yet capable piece of hardware that can handle everything you throw at it and more. Let's start with the most noticeable part of any gaming monitor.
Design & IO
Even though this is a gaming monitor, BenQ has thankfully avoided the call of the LED siren. This is a good thing in this case, as the monitor features a surprisingly clean and modern look which lacks any flashy lights or materials and sticks to the tried and tested matte finish in both the stand as well as the monitor itself.
The stand is mostly metal, with the base featuring a nice triangular shape. The monitor's back also has a shallow triangle look. Although this one is a four-sided triangle, with the ports hidden in the bottom one.
You only get 2 HDMI and 1 DisplayPort. Thankfully, they upgraded the HDMI's to V.2.0. To handle the graphic load of most 1080p applications. They hide under an IO cover that comes with the package. So, you get a bit of an in-built cable management solution for free, which is a plus.
You can adjust the monitor according to your preference with options for tilt (down -5˚/up - 20˚), swivel (left 20˚/right 20˚), and height adjustment (130mm). The power supply connects via a standard cable, and the monitor is company rated at 100 - 240V, with a peak power consumption of 55W.
Display
The display is the truly special part of this monitor. You get a nice 27" FHD IPS display that has an exceptional refresh rate of 165Hz. Not that other monitors haven't topped this number, but not at this price range. It has a native contrast of 1000:1 and a pixel density of 82 PPI.
You even get support for HDR 10, and the company takes it a step further by adding a light sensor to enable various HDRi modes. The place where this display really shines is the response times and colour reproduction.
Not only do you get an amazing colour gamut of approximately 99% sRGB, but you also get an amazing response time of 2ms (GtG) and 1ms (MRPT), respectively.
This means you can not only run the fastest games without a hit of lag but also be able to see every single detail in each frame with the highest possible colour accuracy. This performance translates to movies and editing software as well that get the benefit of special colour settings designed to make the best out of each application.
Colour Settings & Gaming Modes
Modern displays take colour optimization to a whole another level, and the support for HDR 10 plays a big role in enabling this. The EX2710S takes this one step further by using custom HDRi profiles for different uses.
This means that in addition to the standard SD and HDR modes, you now also have access to Cinema HDRi and Game HDRi modes. The previous tweaks the colours to make the images pop, while the latter enhances the shadows to prevent over-exposure. All this is further tweaked on the fly through software. This means you get a completely different experience based on the content.
Other than HDRi, you also have various colour profiles for specific kinds of games, such as FPS mode, racing games, and even a special one for RPGs. There are also non-gaming colour profiles, including ePaper, sRGB, M-Book, and of course, Custom. You can pick between the ones you like on an application-by-application basis.
You can use the Scenario Mapping feature to save separate profiles for each device you use. That way, you won't have to tweak the settings with each change on input.
Gamers can also take advantage of other features designed especially for them, such as Motion Blur Reduction, Color Vibrance, Light Tuner, FreeSync Premium, and Black eQualizer. Between all these customization options, you can get the best picture profile for all your gaming and entertainment content.
Sound
Last, and somewhat the least, is the sound. The monitor features two 2.5W downward-firing speakers. They are loud enough for a regular room but don't have the kick needed for a proper gaming setup.
Although BenQ has collaborated with treVolo to feature their True sound audio technology, which uses a DSP chip to optimize the sound effects, and even perform some basic noise cancellation for an optimal aural experience.
We would still suggest sticking with an external audio system if you want to get a truly enjoyable experience, as you certainly won’t get any noticeable bass on these speakers alone.
Even though it seems weird ending on the worst part of the product, this is still a high note for a gaming monitor that excels in everything else, and at a price of around 850 AED, this is a deal you simply can’t afford to miss. Since you also get all the latest Eye-Care technologies that BenQ has been adding to its monitors.
