ViewSonic TD2455 Touchscreen Monitor Review

Is It Really Worth it?

The pricey ViewSonic TD2455 is an intelligently designed 24-inch touch-screen monitor for corporate classroom use. What makes it unique is that it supports both gesture-based (finger) multi-touch and stylus usage. Its remarkable tilt range and smart presentation-oriented features make it worth the money, or does it? We decided to find out for ourselves and here’s everything you need to know.

ViewSonic-TD2455-Touchscreen-Monitor

Features

ViewSonic’s latest, TD2455’s 23.8-inch panel employs in-plane switching (IPS) technology and delivers a resolution of 1080p at a standard widescreen (16:9) aspect ratio. Embedded in a matte-black cabinet, the monitor features a 0.6-inch bezel on the bottom and ultra-thin bezels on the sides. Including the stand, the monitor measures 11.3 by 21.2 by 16.8 inches and weighs approximately 6.5kgs. The screen can be used normally or titled to face upwards - it can be tilted to offer screen angles from -5 degrees to 60 degrees at a vertical angle.

Connectivity

The monitor offers ample connectivity with a wide selection of ports: there are one upstream and two downstream USB Type-A ports, a USB-C port that supports DisplayPort, one HDMI port, and two DisplayPort connectors, one input and one output. The USB-C port supports DisplayPort over USB and lets it transfer data. The TD2455 also offers power delivery via USB of up to 60 watts, enabling users to charge another device. The incredible tilt range provides easier access to the ports that are placed in the back, which are usually hidden from direct visibility. The two downstream USB ports are conveniently placed on the left side of the monitor.

Controls

Controls on the TD2455 are smooth and straightforward. They consist of buttons on the bottom bezel near the right-hand edge - on the extreme right is the power button, and to its left are five square buttons that can be used to navigate through the on-screen display. The panel sports a 10-point capacitive touch screen that supports gesture-based multi-touch finger control. The TD2455 also comes with a stylus (that comes with an extra nib) that can make its usage super seamless and convenient. Both the modes were a delight to use for us.

Colour and Brightness

We recorded a luminance of 220 nits in the Standard Mode which is a wee bit short of its claimed 250-nit brightness. However, that’s still more than sufficient for general business and classroom use. The contrast ratio was at around 687:1 in regular usage against its 1,000:1 rating. ViewSonic’s TD2455 covered 94.6 per cent of the sRGB colour space, the standard colour space used on the web and many applications, and 74.3 per cent of DCI-P3, a commonly used colour space for the purpose of digital movie/video projection. We completed our testing after viewing lots of documents, webpages, and videos to find that the TD2455 delivers an impressive viewing experience. Its colours are bright and vivid in photos and videos, and the contrast is remarkable too.

Verdict

While ViewSonic’s TD2455 is introduced at the higher end of the price scale as far as 24-inch 1080p monitors are considered, very few of them can offer what this does in terms of touch-screen functionality. Moreover, not many monitors offer the extreme tilt range that this does. Add to it TD2455’s ability to daisy-chain with other monitors, and add a projector or interactive whiteboard to be used in classrooms and conference rooms, and it makes it worth its price tag.
