Satellite SOS Service
In order to notify your emergency contacts of your position and medical ID, SOS services often need you to be within range of a cellular network. But what if you lose your connection just when you need it the most?
As usual, Apple has a workaround ready for us. You won't need a cellular connection to use SOS on the newest iPhones. It will utilize satellite to transmit information from your iPhone to the Emergency Call Center, which will then forward the information to your Emergency Contacts.
How does It work?
To guarantee that dispatchers rapidly grasp a user's status and location, a brief questionnaire displays to enable the user to answer crucial questions with a few easy taps, and this information is communicated in the first message. Apple spoke extensively with professionals to evaluate typical inquiries and procedures in order to determine the most frequent triggers for dialling 911.
After completing the survey, the user is led through the steps necessary to connect their iPhone and send the first message. Information gathered from the user's questionnaire is included in this alert, as well as their current location (including altitude), the percentage of battery life remaining on their iPhone, and, if enabled, their medical ID. Relay centres manned by Apple-trained professionals may make emergency calls on the user's behalf after they get the questionnaire and any subsequent messages sent to them via satellite. When an emergency occurs, the user may notify their emergency contacts by sending them a copy of the transcript.
Is It Free?
The vast majority of Apple's services require payment. This service, however, is provided at no cost for the first two years following its introduction. However, after the free trial, customers will be required to pay a fee in order to continue using this function. Apple has released a comprehensive guide on how to take advantage of this function.
Availability
Only the most recent flagship models, like the iPhone 14 and higher variants, offer this special feature. This service does not need the download of any supplementary apps. The iOS update includes this function, which can be accessed in the same way as any other setting on the device.
