Patreon Video Launched

Native Video Hosting For Paying Users

Patreon is one of the most popular content hosting platforms on the internet, as it lets fans and followers support their favourite creators through paid subscriptions. This way, both parties are invested in the platform, as it allows for more meaningful interaction between the two while also providing an added layer of privacy and security against censorship.

Patreon-Video-Launched

This is why the majority of popular content creators are already in the habit of posting their videos on Patreon first as a form of reward for their audience. The issue is that despite this early access, the creators and users still have to deal with third-party video hosting platforms like YouTube and Vimeo to access the same, which can sometimes be troublesome due to unexpected playback issues.

Moreover, users then still have to adhere to the strict content guidelines of these platforms and the fickle nature of the algorithms behind the news feeds, which often change the ranking and accessibility of the content quite arbitrarily. To avoid such issues when dealing with paywall-protected creator content, the platform has launched a new video hosting service called Patreon Video.

This platform will allow users to upload all their videos in the same place, with unlimited storage and ad-free playback options. Users will also have the option to create custom thumbnails, save play states, and disregard any sort of content guideline, considering that the whole service is free from the control of monetizing ad algorithms. This way, creators can focus solely on delivering exactly what their niche audience wants to see.

Users can tweak their videos using the new data-driven insights and set custom video previews to attract potential eyeballs even as they scroll by. There is even the option to enter picture-in-picture mode to make it more easier for viewers to enjoy the content while multitasking. Lastly, you finally get casting support via Airplay, with the Chromecast update not far behind.

All of these features and more are available to users who already have the Pro or Premium plans for Patreon. They can enjoy them at no cost throughout 2023, with the company planning to start proper monetization in the coming years.
