This is a much-awaited feature that has been requested by users for quite some time. It opens up more possibilities for interaction within the app, as you can most probably send a single poll to multiple people just like a broadcast. So far, the estimate is that you can add up to 12 selectable options with each question, so there shouldn't be any issue with doing expansive surveys in the future.
Furthermore, unlike previous rumours, it seems like the polling feature won't just be limited to group chats. So, most likely, you will be able to send polls in one-on-one conversations as well. We don't have an idea of what the exact poll will end up looking like or where the poll button will be placed finally. But the fact that it is being included as a real feature in beta versions means that eventually, it will become a reality in some form.
This is just another attempt from the parent company, Meta, to keep its platforms and services relevant in an ever-changing social media landscape, where Gen Z people aren't as loyal as the initial wave of internet users. Let's see if this is a step in the right direction.
