They’re running this competition as part of their partnership with PlayStation’s world-famous driving game franchise Gran Turismo. In 2019, PlayStation selected Michelin as the “official tire technology partner” for the Gran Turismo franchise. As part of this deal, the game now features Michelin-branded tires and includes special sections that inform players about Michelin’s history with global motorsports.
This Cross Continent Cup is just another part of that deal, with hopes that the chance to win big money will attract more players to the franchise and the PlayStation platform in general. This first edition of this tournament-style contest was held in 2021 in the MENA region.
This second edition will run from 29 November to 18 December 2021. It is open to players from UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, South Africa, Algeria, Egypt, Morocco, and India.
Players who compete in the second edition will fight for a combined prize pool of USD 40,000. With the first prize being $20,000, the second set at $15000, and the third with just $5000.
The contest is already underway, with the registration for the first weeks of races already done. You can register for the second week, in the time period between the 6th to the 12th of December.
All players who register will get to play in a leaderboard-based tournament. Based on the results of the initial races, twelve finalists will be selected from across the three continents. They will get the chance to race it out at the grand finale, which will be held on December 18th.
To ensure everything runs smoothly, Michelin is also collaborating with Power League Gaming, a top e-gaming company that is helping them with campaign strategy, production, and marketing. The hope is that by learning from these initial contests, the brand will be able to improve future editions for more entertainment and eventually draw a larger audience to the world of e-sports.
If you too are a gamer and think you have the skills to win big money, then go register now.
