VMware Workstation 17 Launched

Updated Version of Popular Virtualization Software

VMware has announced Workstation 17, which includes several improvements and newly added features that promise to increase proficiency in managing desktop virtualization with this platform. Let us have a look at it and see what it is about.

VMware 17-Launched

VMware Workstation

If you're unfamiliar with virtualization software, let me introduce you to VMware Workstation. VMware Workstation Pro is VMware's top-tier desktop product for supporting virtual machine workloads and multiple operating systems on Windows and Linux machines. The host OS comes with a stripped-down desktop virtualization app. Hosting may be done on any system with enough unused power to do so. For a Type 2 hypervisor, it provides an excellent virtualization platform that can be put to work in either a professional or personal setting.

VMware Workstation Player

The free VMware Workstation Player offers streamlined virtualization capabilities. You are limited to a single virtual machine instance at a time when using VMware Player. Licensed users of VMware Player can run virtual machines created in VMware Workstation Pro and VMware Fusion. Any host and guest operating systems that are supported by Workstation are also supported by Player, and vice versa. Once more, the user interface is simplified to match the capabilities.

New Updates

The newest version of VMware's popular virtualization software, VMware Workstation 17, is packed with improvements and enhancements, such as improved graphics support With OpenGL 4.3 and support for WDDM 1.2. Other notable additions include:

Auto Start Virtual Machines

When your host computer powers up, your virtual machines may start up automatically thanks to the Auto Start function. Choose the File > Configure Auto Start VMs menu item to access the functionality. If you want your virtual machines to start up automatically, you can choose the auto-start behaviour and choose the Start Order they will launch in. Both Windows and Linux VMs are acceptable.

Guest Operating Systems Support

VMware Workstation 17 Pro now supports Windows Server 2022, Windows 11, RHEL 9, Debian 11.X, and Ubuntu 22.04. Users who seek official support for Windows 11 and Ubuntu 22.04 in particular, VMware Tools, etc., for new VMs will be pleased by this expansion of support for more operating systems. This will also allow for more customization options in the virtual machines, which can now run specific operating systems based on the preference of individual guest users.

Virtual Trusted Platform Module 2.0

To facilitate the use of Windows 11 and other operating systems that need a Trusted Platform Module, Workstation Pro now provides a virtual Trusted Platform Module (version 2.0) device (TPM).

Encryption Features

Fast Encryption is yet another promising new option. A virtual machine's most vital local storage areas are the ones that are secured using Fast Encryption. Using a secure enclave for sensitive data like the TPM device helps to prevent any security risks while also drastically improving the overall speed of the virtual machine. In the new VM Settings > Encryption window or the standard VM Settings > Encryption window, you may activate it for all virtual machines.
