Thanks to Sony’s most recent lens design and XD Linear Motors technology, the FE 20-70mm F4 G offers superb optical performance in a wonderfully compact, lightweight lens with an unprecedented ultra-wide 20 mm to 70 mm zoom range and constant F4 aperture. This lens can produce excellent image quality in almost any situation at all focal lengths when paired with a small mirrorless body. Additionally, whether capturing video with a 16:9 or 2.35:1 aspect ratio, it is feasible to keep a broad angle of view thanks to the ultra-wide 20 mm end of the zoom range. With amazing image quality and exquisite bokeh, the new FE 20-70mm F4 G lives up to the G Lens name.
The new lens, which uses the newest technology from Sony, promises distinct G Lens image quality in a surprisingly small and light lens. This lens’s cutting-edge optical design, which includes two AA elements, one aspherical element, three ED glass elements, and one ED aspherical element, simultaneously corrects chromatic and spherical aberration for exceptionally high optical performance throughout the entire zoom range. This superb optical design is enhanced by optimised coatings that provide great flare and ghost resistance for exceptional contrast and clarity.
Auto Focus
Two of Sony’s most recent XD Linear Motors are used to power the focus group of the lens, giving tremendous thrust for quick, silent, low-vibration focus drive. With up to a 60% increase in AF speed due to considerable improvements in thrust efficiency over prior models and tracking performance that has increased by roughly two times over those models, moving subjects are tracked consistently, reliably, and precisely. The Alpha body can seamlessly record when shooting video at a high frame rate and can reliably track moving subjects when taking continuous still photos of them at up to 30 frames per second.
Video Quality
The FE 20-70mm F4 G is equipped with the most recent lens technology from Sony to minimise focus breathing, axial shift, and focus shift when zooming to guarantee the best possible image quality. With cutting-edge XD linear motors and a newly built aperture unit that significantly lowers noise and vibration, this lens has also been thoughtfully engineered for silent operation when shooting movies. At the ultra-wide 20 mm end of the FE 20-70mm F4 G zoom range, the Active Mode image stabilisation on Alpha series cameras performs exceptionally well while keeping a wide field of view. When walking, this can be very helpful for filming steady, fluid handheld video.
Features
The independent focus, brilliant zoom capabilities, and aperture rings of the new FE 20-70mm F4 G have been optimised for diameter, width, and location for complete control while taking still photos, as well as for optimum adaptability when filming videos. A focus mode lever on the side of the lens allows you to swiftly switch between autofocus and manual focus to adapt to shifting shooting conditions. Customisable focus hold buttons are offered in two locations for simple access and convenient control.
Despite being ultra wide-angle, the lens is compatible with circular polarising filters all the way to the edge of the lens, giving the user complete artistic freedom. It also has an Iris Lock switch to stop unauthorised adjustments while shooting. The front lens element of the FE 20-70mm F4 G also includes a fluorine coating that deters fingerprints, dust, water, oil, and other pollutants. Finally, the FE 20-70mm F4 G has a dust and moisture-resistant construction.
Price & Availability
Starting on February 2nd, 2023, the FE 20-70mm F4 G lens will be available in the Middle East and Africa. After the initial launch, it will be sold for $1525 at Sony Center, Alpha Flagship shops, Sony authorised dealers, e-commerce platforms including Amazon and Flipkart, and major electronics retailers across all international markets.
