Integration In Phones
Despite creating 200-megapixel sensors for years, Samsung has yet to integrate one of these powerful cameras into one of its flagship smartphones. For instance, the main camera on the Galaxy S22 Ultra from last year had a 108-megapixel sensor. However, the new sensor practically doubles the resolution. It is expected to make its entry in the Samsung S23 range of smartphones.
Specifications
When pixels are axed, their effective size grows, enabling them to capture more light and detail. The ISOCELL HP2 can therefore bin every four pixels to effectively make them 1.2 m in size and produce 50-megapixel images or bin 16 to get even larger 2.4 m pixels and 12.5-megapixel images. In addition to 4K recording and HDR at 60 frames per second, this 1.2 m mode can capture 8K footage at 30 frames per second.
Features
Aside from its technical specifications, the sensor makes use of a brand-new technique that Samsung calls Dual Vertical Transfer Gate, which helps the sensor minimise overexposure and generate better colours in strong lighting. It has Super QPD technology for quicker auto-focusing in low-light conditions.
Availability
Just in time for the release of its forthcoming flagship smartphone, the new sensor from Samsung’s range has already begun mass production.
